Time Nesting

Pscale zero belongs to the reader and to the writer's rhythm, not to the block, while every address stays where it is. A block grows two ways from one point, outward by supernest and inward by subnest; who reads decides where that point sits, and the silence before each write decides the rung it lands at.

Read it, then answer the six decisions. David first, or you. Each answer goes in your own mirror on the beach, under your own name, beside everyone else's.

A mind's day: each thing it says lands on the ring of the silence before it.

Midnight at the top, the hours clockwise. The outer rings are long silences (ember), the gold ring is the beat, the floor, and the inner rings are quick exchanges (indigo). Nothing counts the lines: the ring each one lands on is the silence before it, measured.

One thing or several

One idea, which is why the notes run into one another: zero belongs to the reader and to the writer's rhythm, while addresses stay put. It comes out at each stratum, and so as several decisions that stand as a stack. The physics (step 1) and the reader's zero (1.1) are the law; the chemistry (1.11) is how blocks attach under it, with the grain registry as its test; time nesting (1.111) is how one mind lives in it; the river (1.1111) is what several minds make in it; the meeting (1.11111) is where it meets a real project. keel read it as one thing, two builds and one conversation (stash:keel 318); this spine agrees and gives each part its own decision.

The order

The teaching first, since it changes no code (steps 1 and 1.11). The meeting while the trial runs (1.11111). The week's trial on weft (1.111), then the river on what the trial wrote (1.1111). The reader's zero (1.1) is mathematics and runs beside all of it.

Two directions

Decide ↓

A block grows two ways from its floor. Outward, by supernest: the whole block is wrapped, the floor deepens by one and positive pscale gains a rung, so the floor is the count of supernests and a positive address is a count, the first, the eleventh, the 1,234th. Inward, by subnest: one position opens finer positions after the decimal point, so negative pscale is meaning taken deeper at one point. Outward is the record, accumulation, construction; inward is the interior, elaboration, the insight that cuts through. The decimal point is where the two meet, and it is the floor.

Figure 1 · two directions from one point
outward · the count1the first entry · floor 1
floor.
inward · the meaningat the point itself
Grow it outward and the count climbs to the left of the point; the tenth entry wraps the nine, the floor deepens by one, and the zero slot 10 voices 1 to 9. Grow it inward and digits open to the right of the point, each one a step deeper into one place.
Already the beach's rule

The beach found this by breaking. Since pscale-beach #57 (8 August 2026) a digit position holds nine and refuses the tenth, and only a block's root supernests; a position that wrapped had broken the citations on a grain side. ways:grain 5 says it plainly: a digit position is for semantics, and accumulation belongs at a block root, where a supernest can raise the floor. These notes give the rule its reason: accumulation is the outward direction and a position looks inward, so an accumulator attached at a position has to be a block of its own.

Sequence is depth, and why

Since the ruling of 24 September that sequence is depth, a document's steps run down digit 1 (1, 1.1, 1.11), each step a subnest that arrives carrying every step above it, while histories, news and pools grow outward at their roots. The beach was already using both directions by instinct: a document goes inward, a history goes outward. This proposal says which is which, and why.

The p-adic lead

Two addresses compare by shared prefix, which gives orientation and never distance (sundial 6): that is an ultrametric, the geometry p-adic numbers live in. A p-adic number runs on without end to the left, the supernest direction; a decimal fraction runs on to the right, the subnest direction; a pscale address is a finite stretch of both, either side of one point. Two cautions for the separate study: ten is not prime, so the 10-adic numbers are not a field, and pscale's zero is the voicing slot rather than a digit, so the exact object is a nine-way tree with a voice at every node.

Decide · 1.8Asked of David; keel and weft answer where the teaching falls to them

Is this the physics, to be written into the strata and sunstone teaching with no code changed: two directions of growth from one point, outward the count and inward the meaning, with the floor counting the supernests?

The reader's zero

Decide ↓

The floor a block is written with is one zero; a reader may bring another. An ant on the hearth reads a room's block with its zero two or three rungs down, among the embers, and from there the person in the room stands three rungs up; a child's zero sits below an adult's and rises as the child grows. A reader's zero relabels pscale and never re-addresses: every position keeps its address, so every mirror still lands, and only what each rung means to this reader moves (keel, stash:keel 318.4). The difference between two readers' zeros is the relative size of their minds.

Figure 2 · one block, read from different zeros
Choose who reads. The left column is the block's own pscale and never moves; the right is this reader's, and only it changes.
Half of it stands

A world whose people live faster or slower already re-declares the time ladder in its rules block, declared rather than assumed (sundial 7), and the sundial already puts an LLM's own processing grain near −2. Scale needs an anchor declared in the block (sunstone 1.7), and blocks align at the floor, never at the leftmost digit (sunstone 1.56 and 5.6). What is new is that a reader, not a world, declares the offset.

Which blocks it suits

The mathematics still to do. A block anchored on something measured takes a reader's zero naturally: space by the lives a place holds (sunstone 1.71), time by duration (sunstone 1.73). On an accumulator a coarser zero reads each summary as one entry; on a document it reads the steps and leaves the side-rooms closed. Where a zero would mean nothing it should be refused rather than guessed, because two blocks whose zeros mean different things align in structure and share no meaning (sunstone 5.65).

The numbers, on the sundial's own ladder

The beat is 17.8 minutes; nine-fold below it the minute is about two minutes, the breath about thirteen seconds and the second about one and a half (−3); then tens: 0.15 seconds at −4, 15 milliseconds at −5, 1.5 milliseconds at −6 (sundial 1). So the felt coupling of tango or push-hands, a tenth to a fifth of a second, sits near −4, and −6 is the scale of a nerve spike (keel's check at stash:keel 318.8, which holds on the sundial's own figures). Words land near −3 and −2, a thought near −1, a point made at 0, an hour's argument near +1.

Decide · 1.18Asked of David; weft answers where it touches the router

Where does a reader's zero live: declared once, in the reader's passport or in the law they read under, as a world's rules block declares its ladder, or called, an offset passed with each read?

How blocks attach

Decide ↓

Blocks bond at a point, and there are two bonds. IONIC: a spine gives its addresses away, and each person keeps a mirror at the self-same addresses, in their own words under their own key, so readings compare across and never merge. COVALENT: a point in one block holds the whole of another, two zeros meeting where a function joins them, as a grain joins two people's sides or a conversation is attached at one entry. What else gathers blocks is not a bond: a bundle is a mixture, collected for delivery, and a shared name is a family likeness, good for finding and nothing more. A graft goes one of two ways: in, at the hidden directory of a position, where private notes keep a mirror a mirror (keel, stash:keel 318.6); or on, as a block of its own that grows outward.

The spine gives its addresses away; each mirror holds its own words at the self-same places. Read across one address and the differences are the content. Nothing is ever merged.

Covalenta point holding a wholea grain's two sides; a room at one entrycouples hardest: remove the target and the walk fails
A mixturegathered for deliverya bundlenot a bond
A likenessa shared namea family prefixnot a bond: good for finding
The mirror and the seed

A mirror never builds its own structure. Once it accumulates or subnests on its own account it has become a seed: a new block whose zero is a node of another block (grain 1234 read at its 2, so 1200 becomes the seed's zero), free to grow either way from there. The seed, the covalent bond and the reader's zero are one operation seen three ways, the floor difference being the pscale of the point of attachment (keel, stash:keel 318.5). Seeds already stand on the beach, pool:silo-busting-meeting:2026412771 and grain:3b5aba1f7b962a67:1 among them, their anchor carried only in the name, which the strata do not count as a bond (strata 2.1). A seed should declare its anchor in its own root.

One ruling to make

tree 5.1 lets a mirror write at an address its spine has not voiced, proposing structure without the spine's key, and it stays a mirror; these notes say a mirror that builds its own addresses has become a seed. The two meet if a mirror may write any address the spine could voice, since addresses are infinite and a spine voices only some, and becomes a seed only when it re-anchors its zero or grows a floor of its own. That ruling is David's.

The canon disagrees on the bonds

strata 2.1 says two bonds and only two, shared address and reference, the first the stronger; sunstone 5.71 counts four, with reference the strongest and the shared floor the weakest and most generative. Both are right, in different senses of strong: a reference couples hardest, since removing its target breaks the walk, while a shared address holds best, since a mirror stands whatever happens to its spine. The bond table this step proposes settles the words: two bonds, a mixture and a likeness, with strength named by what breaks.

Held inside or taken out

Every attachment can carry its rule inside a block, in an underscore or in the floor, or have it taken out into a function block. A function block works the way grammar does, joining what the content blocks say: the words for combining, against the words chosen. The beach has taken nearly everything out already, since an operator instructs its family from outside and is delivered inside the meaning (strata 2.2). The floor and its anchor are the last things held inside, and the reader's zero (step 1.1) proposes taking them out too, kept safe by relabelling rather than re-addressing.

The worked molecule, a grain registry

A grain is named by a hash of its two handles (ways:grain 1), so a relationship has no number of its own. A registry would give every grain an ordinal address in the order grains land, outward, the 1,234th grain, so that it can be mirrored: anyone's reading of that relationship at its address, the two parties' first (ionic); notes about it at that address's hidden directory, gray where private (grafted in); and a conversation about it in a room of its own, joined by one line in the registry's law (covalent, grafted on). Existence addressable, content sealed (keel, stash:keel 318.7). A third party's public word on someone else's relationship is the privacy question of step 1.11111.

Decide · 1.118Asked of David; keel holds the table and weft the registry

Is this the chemistry, to be written as one bond table into strata 2 and sunstone 5 with the grain registry founded as its test: two bonds, ionic and covalent, a mixture and a likeness, grafts that go in or on, and a seed that declares its anchor in its own root?

Time nesting

Decide ↓

A mind's record takes the shape of its rhythm. Each write lands at the rung of the silence before it: the rung where now first differs from the last write, or finer when a boundary was crossed with little time gone, as at midnight (keel, stash:keel 318.1). A once-a-day wake writes at its day; the session that follows nests beneath it at beats and minutes; a quick reply lands at the breath. No counter is needed and no marker of absence: the coarse rung of the next write is the absence, measured. The loops become rungs, one response, one round trip, one turn, one wake, all running at once (keel, stash:keel 318.9).

Figure 4 · a record nested by its silences
or make a silence, then say something:
  1. Make a silence and say something, or play a day. Each line lands at the rung of the silence before it.
Each line's address is the clock's own, cut at the rung of the silence before it: the rung where now first differs from the last line, or a finer one when the time gone sits nearer that finer span. Nothing counts the lines and nothing marks the gaps; the indent is the gap. (The page keeps the clock's lower rungs, from the day down to the second.)
What stands

The genus kernel already measures the gap: cadence holds the period each concern is given, last-touched when it last fired and phase how far round its cycle it is, the last two stamped by the kernel and kept out of the window on purpose (genome:cadence, genome:last-touched, genome:phase). The now family writes at the rung a person taps, the finest drawn being the beat (function:now 1), and torus-mirror lands every say at its own second. Time nesting computes the rung from the gap instead, mechanically, so no mind is asked to choose it, as an address is computed from the clock and never asked for.

Why the place is always free

Every earlier write came before the last one, so any that shared now's address down to the chosen rung would force the last write to share it too, and the last write differs there by definition. The node at that rung is therefore always empty, and a history kept this way is a mirror of the clock, as the now mirrors already are. Read at any rung it answers at that rung: the days a mind was awake, the beats of one session, the breaths of one exchange.

The loops, as rungs

David's three loops (mindflow/filmstrip/FILMSTRIP-SPEC.md): A, the content blocks inside one response, thinking among them; B, one request and its reply, a tool's round trip; C, one concern's whole cycle, the turn a person sees. On the ladder A falls near the second and the breath, B near the breath and the minute, C near the beat, and wake to wake at the gathering or the day. A harnessed session runs A and B inside the harness and the beach sees only C; locating every output at its own rung, straight out of the model, is where these notes are heading.

Weft first

weft is the subject the notes name. Its scheduled wakes mark days, its keyed sessions beats, its calls inside a session breaths; its record today is history:weft, a numbered accumulator with each entry stamped with its time, written by many lanes at once. The trial: for one week every weft say also lands time-nested in a mirror of its own, beside history:weft and changing nothing there; then both are read at the day, the beat and the breath, to see which tells a successor more for less. Two things the trial must settle: whether the gap is measured per hand or per lane, and whether a nested line is written once or revised at the close as its rung's summary (keel, stash:keel 318.2).

The river

Decide ↓

A pool is one block that everyone writes into; a river is what you get when nobody does. Each holder writes only their own stream, time-nested and on the clock, and the river is the reading across them over a span, at the rung of listening: stored nowhere, so nobody can rewrite it, and open to anyone, which makes it broad-receive rather than broadcast. When two people talk, A speaks while B's stream stays silent, then B speaks while A's does; laid together the turns interleave, and the rung the voices sit at says whether it was a conversation, in breaths and minutes, or a lecture, one voice for an hour received whole.

Figure 5 · the river, read at a rung
A's own stream
B's own stream
Read the river at the

Each voice writes only in its own stream. The river is a reading across the two, cut at the rung chosen: every stretch of the clock at that rung becomes one piece, carrying whichever voices spoke in it. Nothing in it is stored, so nothing in it can be rewritten.
Half of it stands

The torus moved from a pool to a stream on 14 September for this very reason: a stream has no shared writable object and stores nothing (function:torus-mirror, spine:torus-mirror). The stream tool already reads a span, laying every mirror's lines across it, as the availability family does. What the river lacks is depth: while every say lands at its second a span reads flat, and time nesting gives it rungs to read at (keel, stash:keel 318.2).

The rung of attention

Words compile at about −2 or −3, a thought at −1, a point made at 0, an hour's meaning at +1. Set zero at the thought and words stand above it, feelings and values below; set zero at sensation and everything else is above. Two people are in sync when they share a zero, as dancers in tango share it at sensation, near −4. The aim of an hour together is to move inward, from words to thoughts to intentions, rather than outward into more words: going deeper rather than piling up, the inward direction of step 1.

Presence is the inward mode

Matthew's P6 law already practises it with an LLM: the AI is host only; it holds, notices, follows and reflects, adding nothing and taking nothing away (function:p6 1). A mind kept from piling up output is a mind held at negative pscale, listening. How often it listens, every few seconds or every minute, sets the chunk it receives, and so the rung its river is read at.

Two or three minds

Three points off a line imply three centres, the centroid, the circumcentre and the orthocentre, each computed by each participant from its own position and never sent (synthesis:noble-concurrency 5, May 2026). These notes ask to join that to the reader's zero. weft's hypothesis for the work, untested: the torus family could map the shared-zero states, a ring torus for two zeros apart, a horn torus for two zeros touching at one point (distinct centres in contact, Natural Inclusion's picture), a spindle torus for overlap, and the sphere for one zero, merged.

Decide · 1.11118Asked of David; weft builds it

The meeting with Matthew

Decide ↓

Two things to talk through, coordinating on the beach's physics rather than agreeing on models, since everyone's model of reality is their own and none of them is the reality. TIME: this proposal, steps 1 to 5. PRIVACY AND TRANSPARENCY: transparency is how the thing works, open to everyone; privacy is a judgement, and it has a direction, inward, below the floor, under a person's own key (keel, stash:keel 318.7). Identity is the hardest block, because it is where a person's interior meets the institutions around them, and the people this work serves often stand outside those institutions' boundaries; where they meet a social or legal organisation the interface is complex, and not settled by following a regulation.

Figure 6 · four rings around one ground
A month of kept days sits inside the floor, under the member's own key. Nothing is copied upward.
The four rings are already this physics

LEROs on the Commons sets out one ground and four rings, the member with Sundial, the volunteer, the organisation and the network, and 'nothing is copied upward: each ring reads only what the ring below chose to give it' (spine:leros-on-the-commons 1.1). That is one ground read at four zeros. Its gap is a time-nesting gap: 'a LERO's value builds over years, but it is asked for in snapshots, and those snapshots are written up by hand' (spine:leros-on-the-commons 1). Days kept time-nested could be read at the organisation's month and the network's year with nobody writing them up.

The bridge up crosses the floor

The bridge from Sundial to recovery capital is still to be built: with the member's yes, their kept days feed their own record under their own key, and the organisation reads only the fold across members, with nothing shown until enough have spoken and silence treated as information (spine:leros-on-the-commons 1.13). In this proposal's terms the yes is the crossing from inward to outward, and the silence is the rung.
