Technologies open fields, bloom, fade into the ground they made, and are bypassed. From stone tools to the beach: 3.3 million years, one dataset, drawn three ways on one clock.
On the log clock, each band of the background is one order of magnitude: the last ten years, the last hundred, the last thousand, out to three million. Accelerating change spreads evenly across it, so the punctuations show as clusters rather than as a crush at the right edge. Switch to Linear to see the crush.
The Shell winds the same clock into an equiangular spiral, one whorl per order of magnitude. The present is always the aperture; as time plays, the recent past pours inward. The form never changes as records or years are added. Only what fills it does.
Each record carries a handful of numbers: origin, peak, level, fate, lineage. Reach and heat are modelled from those, so the picture is a structured hypothesis rather than measurement. To grow it, append records; the form holds. Measured curves can replace modelled ones stem by stem from three open sources: the Historical Tech Tree (lineage links), CHAT (adoption in 150+ countries since 1800) and Seshat (technologies by polity across ten thousand years).
